5 Instagram accounts that have nailed their aesthetic

Instagram is different things to different people. Some people like to use it like Facebook and just post random pictures of their day, while others take a much more considered approach. There is no doubt that if you were Beyonce you could do the former and still grow your following. However, sadly there is only one Beyonce, so, many people find the best way to grow their followers is to develop a theme. Developing an aesthetic unifies your feed and prevents it looking like twenty different people are posting to the same feed. It gives potential followers an idea of what to expect if they follow your account.

5 instagram accounts that have nailed their aesthetic to produce a cohesive feed and increase subscribers

You can pick any theme/aesthetic that works for you, fits in with your life and most importantly that you like.  A good place to start is to think about the feeds that appeal to you. Would it be practical or even possible for you to create a similar aesthetic for your feed. Do you like bright photos, but live in a dark house? Love flat-lays with lots of props, but don’t have the funds for lots of props? You need to create a list of all of the aspects that you love, then cross off the things that aren’t practical for you to achieve.  Then you will be left with your core aspects. It might be an accent colour which appears through your pictures. It could be dark images (or even black and white). Whatever your ‘thing’ is, let it shine and unify your images.

To give you some inspiration. Here are 5 accounts that have nailed their aesthetic;

Sara, who is the ‘me’ in me and orla, has developed such a strong aesthetic, that I am sure I could spot one of Sara’s pictures anywhere. The palette is muted, beautiful and gives a whimsical feel. There is an earthy and slow lived vibe.

Julia’s account is a similar size to Sara’s, but instantly has a different aesthetic. There is a strong white theme in this feed and a feeling a space and simplicity. There is a strong flower element, although they don’t appear in every shot and the over all feel is prettiness and lightness.

As well as being stunning, Meg’s feed focuses primarily on her gorgeous kids. There is always incredible light in her images; whether that is a perfect lack of light or a golden sunlight, it makes all her photographs look magical.

With almost half a million followers Elsie and Emma have totally nailed their Instagram look; bright and pretty is their thing. They use their feed to share their makes and bakes, but always in the same style.

This is one of my favourite feeds. Her shots are primarily black and white, with some gold sun images mixed in. The thing that grabs me about this feed is that she always captures the emotion in the shot. Magical moments laid out for us all to see, honest and truthful to the moment.

    Yes all new to me, I have followed a couple. It hadn’t occurred to me to ‘brand’ my insta feed, thanks!

    I do think that some accounts can become overly styled and a little samey though. I don’t include any of the accounts you’ve mentioned here in that camp though – you’ve picked some of my favourites! I do think you can tell when a style naturally evolves or if it is too considered if that makes sense? I’ve unfollowed people for being too samey before now. But hey, what do I know! I don’t have a huge following on Instagram (I think I only have something like 6k which seems small fry these days!) but my photos are a complete mismatch just like me! Ha!
